Halloween Happenings!

What's happening in Whitstable...

The halfway point of the school’s Autumn term is approaching, leaves are falling, and cinnamon treats are lining every café’s display shelf. This can only mean one thing: it’s time to find that perfect costume and the biggest roundest pumpkin in the patch because the spookiest time of the year is upon us! Mwah ha ha haaa!

At George's, Halloween is one of our favourite times of the year, we can legitimately wear fancy dress (in public!) and eat treats! - so you need to make sure that you take full advantage of this silly season before the Christmas lights start going up. This is why we’ve flown our broomsticks around Whitstable, to gather you all a list of some of the best activities going on in the Halloween half-term, to show that costume off and get into the monster mash!

Whitstable Pumpkin Hunt- 25th October

One of the biggest Halloween events in the area, this is an adventure that will take you all around the town to various stops gathering stamps for your “Pumpkin Passport”, with plenty of tricks, treats and surprises along the way - George's will of course be giving away the best treats of all! This is a real team effort that brings the town together, with plenty of local businesses joining in the fun as stops along the trail- we’ll be there waiting with sweets and toys galore up for grabs for those who stop in for a stamp! And the best part of the fun? It’s all in aid of our fantastic Demelza House, so you can support a great cause this Halloween along your haunted travels.

Harbour Halloween Market- 29th & 30th October

Take a wander down to the Harbour at the end of October and you’ll find an array of activities and stalls sure to fill an Autumn afternoon. You can show off your pumpkin carving skills, make a mask to wear for that last-minute costume; or simply wander around and browse the displays of crafts, jewellery and fresh produce on offer, all serenaded by live music, of course.

Halloween Craft Workshops- 25th & 26th October

A great way to unleash some of that spooky season inspiration, the Horsebridge Centre is hosting two workshops where you can make your very own willow wand on the 25th- a great chance for Harry Potter fans to create and decorate their very own magic wand to cast some Halloween spells! Then, if you think your house could use some extra creepy decoration, go along on the 26th where you’ll be able to create your very own movable skeleton or bat design. If you want to go to town on the decoration we have Halloween decs galore in store.

Halloween Scavenger Hunt- 21st October

When you think of all things scary, an image of a castle just might pop into your mind. So naturally, Whitstable Castle is opening its gates just before Halloween to host a scavenger hunt with its trail taking visitors through their beautiful grounds, as well as craft workshops to fully get into the haunted spirit.

Day of the Dead T-Shirt Workshop- 22nd October

Have you ever had a Halloween costume you loved so much that you wished you could wear all year round (without strange looks in public, anyway)? Well this may just be the answer to this conundrum. At this workshop, held at the Grain and Hearth Bakery, kids can use stencils or their own imagination to design a t shirt inspired by the day of the dead. Then, once they have finished their masterpiece, they get to take it home and wear it long after the jack-o-lantern lights have gone out. You can get some fantastic 'Day of The Dead' style accessories for your outfit at George's - take a peek at our Skulls & Roses Collection and Frida Kahlo Collection for inspiration.

Monster Mash Workshop- 25th October

A lot of energy builds up over half term, especially with the excitement of dressing up and trick or treating just around the corner, and this workshop hosted by BerZerk dance school may just be the perfect way to channel this into a fun activity. Kids will get a taste of both drama and dance as they create a monster for themselves, learn a routine and then get to perform it at the end of the session. There are limited spaces available for this, so if this sounds like just the thing for your little monsters make sure you call the BerZerk team. You'll find plenty of costumes, fab face-paints and halloween hair spray at george's to really get into character!

As you can see, there’s plenty to be explored across our lovely seaside town this Halloween - so go and see what you can discover as the ghosts and ghouls come to play…
