Whitstable Oyster Festival 2019

We're Oyster Festival ready! The highlight of Whitstable's calendar, as summer reaches its zenith, is the Annual Whitstable Oyster Festival. Our lovely seaside town takes to the streets and the beach to celebrate its bounty of world-famous native oysters with a series of lively events.

The Oyster Festival attracts huge numbers of visitors to enjoy the summer celebrations, which blend Whitstable's oyster trading history with modern festivities and an abundance of award winning local food, drink and live entertainment. This year the festival has teamed with renowned artist Quinton Winter to illustrate a series of posters inspired by Weird Whitstable. We are delighted to be a stockist for these within our iconic Whistable Oyster Collection.

Over the weekend (27th - 29th July) you can experience Whitstable at its most vibrant - the weekend kicks off with 'Landing of The Oysters' where a haul of Whitstable Rock Oysters is landed and blessed then head to the High Street for the Oyster Parade on Saturday from 10am where these mighty molluscs are symbolically delivered to restaurants - colourful floats, art installations and performance abound bringing  local ledgends and creatures from the deep back to life! For more about Whitstable's myth and legends take a look at the posters.

Whitstable High Street Events - Aside from the wonderful Whitstable parade, you can meander the eclectic Whitstable High Street to enjoy the fabulous Oyster Festival Window Competition entries. George's Whitstable organises this fun social event which always results in fantastic window displays - this year's theme is Dive Into Whitstable!'

And do join in with our 'Nab The Crab!' competition. Lucy has re-homed some of our bright orange crabs in shops up and down the Whitstable High Street - all you have to do is collect an entry form from George's (15-17 High Street) and find all the crabs to spell out the answer to the crabby question...

If you can't get to Whitstable this weekend, you don't need to miss out on all the fun because in celebration of Whitstable and our oysters we're offering a site-wide 'dozen percent' (12%) discount this weekend online - with code OYSTER12 (expires Monday at midnight).

The Whitstable Harbour will be a mecca for foodies with a bustling food fair and the Harbour Stage will play host to myriad bands and performers throughout the weekend. Get your gullet ready to guzzle half a dozen oysters and a pint of beer in the Oyster Eating Competition - first person to do it (and keep it down) wins!

The Beach - The weekend culminates with the lighting of the iconic Whitstable Grotters, (want to know more about the Grotters? Click here) at sunset (8.52pm), arrive from 4pm on Sunday to help build them and a spectacular finale firework show out at sea to close the Whitstable Oyster Festival 2019.

At George's we love all things Whitstable and we have both a Nautical Niceties Collection and Iconic Whitstable Collections full of fabulous coastal themed home decor and gifts. If you're in town this weekend do pop in and say "hello!".
