Walking in a Whitstable Wonderland
Walking in a Winter Whitstable- Heading into the Holidays with Our Local Small Businesses
The Christmas lights may not be lit just yet, but as the nights draw in, the clocks have gone back, and that unmistakable sense of Christmas seems to slowly be entering the ever-colder air. This is when many people will start looking at what to do for the Holiday season, and in particular, where to find those perfect gifts that will make your loved ones faces light up when the day finally arrives in December.
We’re very old souls here at Georges, with our shop in Whitstable High Street reaching the ripe old age of 50, we’re very proud of our town and its commitment to supporting small businesses in the community. We believe nothing beats strolling through a Kentish town on a winter day, stalls selling warm drinks and food making the air smell festive and welcoming, wandering into charming shops and boutiques not knowing what wonders you’re going to find. That, to us, is a real shopping experience, and can be as much fun as the actual giving and receiving of the presents themselves, something of a treasure hunt to find exactly what you’re looking for, or even stumble across that perfect fit that you would never have thought to look for.
There are some fantastic movements currently working on making sure that small businesses get their voice, you may have seen Theo Paphitis from Dragons Den promoting Small Business Sundays (shortened on social media to #SMS) where he promotes new small businesses online every week. These unique, priceless boutiques are the products of the love, focus and passion of driven individuals, and like Theo Paphitis, we believe this is one of the most beautiful and authentic sectors of the economy. Well worth popping in to explore, we’d say.
We are incredibly lucky in Whitstable to have a wealth of small businesses, selling everything from knickknacks and gifts to floral arrangements and food items, everyone bringing something unique to our town. As we get ready to start the Christmas shopping, why not give some of our boutiques a try, for great products along with a personal experience?
On the 30th November, Whitstable town centre will be turning on their Christmas lights for 2019, officially kicking off the Christmas season. This event coincides with small business Saturday, providing the perfect opportunity to plan a day out in town, supporting local small businesses by getting in some early Christmas shopping before the event starts. Then, we hope you will join us on the 5th December for the Christmas Late Night Shopping Spectacular, where all of your favourite shops will be kept open late so you can peruse the shops under the lights, really getting in the festive feel.
Keep your eyes peeled for the other events going on in our lovely town in the run-up to the holidays, and remember to try and shop locally for a wonderful experience and some incredible and unusual gifts.
